Mobile Holiday Shopping Wins Big, But An Over Bought Market Will be Watching Italy and the Fed

Black Friday parting lots not looking very strong
Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday. The doors to the Holiday Shopping 2016 Season are officially open.
The question we will be watching closely this week is, does the same optimism investors have exhibited in driving markets to all-time highs in the phenomenon we call the “Trump-Trade” carry over to consumer wallets and boost holiday sales?
One thing we know for sure, we won’t find the full story in the shopping mall alone, as online sales by all accounts are surging past the traditional retail channels. Looks like we’re going to need to be following the UPS and FedEx trucks around town to see how many Amazon Prime (AMZN) and Wal-mart (WMT) boxes are being delivered rather than just sitting in the mall counting shopping bags. At least we’ll have the Sirius-XM Holly channel to keep us entertained!

While the prospect of better economic growth lies ahead.
  • Recapping the Data from the Holiday Week That is Likely to Impact the Fed
Despite being a short week, we still had several pieces of economic data to decode over the Thanksgiving week in between servings of sweet potatoes and green bean casserole. We found in those reports is likely to sway the market view on what’s to come at the Fed’s next FOMC meeting (Dec. 13-14).
  • A Little Holiday Shopping Perhaps?
Historically, many would spend a Thanksgiving afternoon in either a food induced coma or watching football and in some cases both. Over the last few years, however, retailers have opened their doors to get a jump start on the holiday shopping season that traditionally kicked off on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving).  According to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights, an estimated 137.4 million people were planning to shop — we break it down where and how they intend to spend their bucks.
