Masterpass expansion by $MA reflects the growth of Cashless Consumption thematic

The battle for the new wallet — the one in your smartphone — is going to be epic by all accounts. With Apple and Android stepping on its toes with its own payment platforms, MasterCard is hitting back with the extension of its Masterpass app onto Smartphones. Of course the beauty of the Apple ecosystem is they can control whether the app makes it onto iPhones, which at this point is the case.

Masterpass is already available for in-app payments or online retailers, which typically provide a button in their shopping carts that allows shoppers to check out with the credit cards they’ve added to their Masterpass account. But now, the company is expanding to physical stores, where customers can use mobile phones to pay with Masterpass at the register, just as they would with offerings from Samsung , Apple Opens, or Google.
