Waistlines continue to expand as America’s obesity epidemic hits a new high so much for $WTW $NTRI $MED

Two new reports from the CDC show American waistlines continue to grow.  From our perspective, the data is confirming but as investors we need to draw out the implications of rising obesity levels in men, women and children, which we do in our Fattening of the Population investing theme.  With  levels continuing creep higher, one has to question the effectiveness of Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Medifast and similar programs.

 

Overall, 38 percent of U.S. adults are obese and 17 percent of teenagers are, the two reports find.That’s obese — medically defined as having a body mass index (BMI), a measure of height to weight, that’s more than 30. Another third or so of Americans are overweight.
